Your Network Marketing Opportunity and the Infamous 3 foot rule

Ah, the 3 foot rule. The traditional 3 foot rule says you should expose your network marketing opportunity or products to anyone who comes within 3 feet of you. Taken at face value it seems like a good idea but it's also a good way to get people to stay at least 3 feet away from you. Imagine asking every person for a date as soon as they got close enough to hear you. If you see someone interesting don't you talk them first? Get to know them? Maybe find out if their interest first?

Well why wouldn't you take the same time to find out if someone is a potential prospect. A friendly conversation is all it takes. Some network marketers are under the assumption that everyone is a potential prospect but the truth is they're not. By potential I mean someone who may want information about what you have to offer.

Take guy #1 he's going on about how he hates his job, he never has enough money but that's life, there's nothing you can do, it's the governments fault, it's the bosses fault, it's his dad's fault, the rich get richer and the poor get poorer blah, blah, blah. Compare that to guy # 2 who hates his job but knows there's got to be a better way, he's keeping his eyes, ears and options open.

Leave guy #1 alone. Guy # 2 is is great potential prospect. Go ahead and tell him I just found a way to make money in my spare time working with people I like...or whatever your icebreaker is. A network marketing opportunity may be what he's been looking for. Be sure to treat your time, energy and yourself with reverence and respect. If someone believes they can do nothing to change their situation, even if you manage to get them to join you, they will never do anything to change their situation. They will still believe their situation is someone else's fault. Even if they join your network marketing opportunity they won't put in their best effort. So, next!
