Success by Association-Who's in Your Five?

I've heard several times that your income is the average of the 5 people you hang around with the most. I've also found it to be true. So the question is "who are you hanging out with?" Thinking of your friends in this way can be really difficult. You might think well money isn't everything and you're right.

The real question is where is it you want to go and are the people you're hanging out helping you get there. You know, if your happy with where you are now then it's probably a moot question. But if you have goals it's an

important question. Your friends are your friends and you care about them. Your probably thinking "I can't just get rid of them." and you may be right.

If you're working toward your goal chances are you're not doing the same things any more. Things always change within your circle of friends. People change, their lives change, friends move on with their lives. In the beginning your friends probably won't understand what your trying to do. It's something I've gone through myself. They may tease you because you're not hanging out with them like you used to. Maybe your not reading the same things, maybe your just starting to read books that don't make sense to your friends. Maybe going to the movies or watching tv or hanging out at the bar just isn't important anymore because those activities aren't moving you closer to your goals.

Change can be hard but change is always possible. As you move away from your circle of friends choose your new friends wisely. You may find it hard to connect with the right people because they're already aware of who they hang out with. Keep working towards your goals. Keep growing and learning and taking action. You will be able to connect with people who can help you move forward just by being around.
