Is Being a Product Expert Slowing your Network Marketing Business Down?

I've always been interested in health and fitness so naturally I ended up in a health and wellness network marketing business. I always did a lot of research. Read books, searched online, subscribed to health, nutrition and fitness magazines. Even before I got involved in network marketing I talked to people about supplements, herbal remedies and trying to stay healthy naturally.

Many people would be interested for about 30 seconds and then get that glazed look in their eyes and find some way to get away from me or change the subject. At that time I was just talking about something I was interested in, not trying to build a network marketing business. For a long time I found myself doing the same thing with my business. People would get that same glazed or confused look in their eyes.

I have a lot of green in my personality. When there's something I'm passionate about I like to get a lot of facts and figures but those facts and figures are not important to everyone. Let's use health and wellness as an example, if you have a product that may help someone with their health challenges you should absolutely recommend that product. Instead of telling them what's in it, how it's made, the molecular structure and the science behind it, just tell a story. What has the product done for you or someone else? Here's a great example of what to say next "I don't know if it'll work for you but try it you might like it".

If they want the details of the product give them a way to find that information. Brochures, literature, a three way call, third party tools or a website. Point them to where the information they're looking for is and follow up with them. There's another reason to do it this way network marketing is about duplication. You want to let your team know that they don't have to be product experts. Even if they just joined you 5 minutes ago. Show them a way to work the the business without having to know everything about every product.

I've been in my company for over a year and a half and I don't know everything about every product but that's ok I don't need to. There's always someone who knows more than I do that can help me when I need it. It doesn't matter if you've been in your company 5 minutes, 5 years or 10 years, keep it super simple. Do you know everything about all your products? Be the expert for your team, help them with 3 way calls so they don't have to be the experts.

Here's one other important thing, I didn't join my company because I researched all the products, I did look at them and learn a little about them but I joined because of the relationship that was built. I got to know, like and trust the person I was talking to. There's plenty of network marketers who are experts and broke. Work on the relationship and helping people that's how you build a network marketing business that stands the test of time.
