The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson

In a society of instant gratification this book is a must read. The Slight Edge by Jeff Olson shines a light on reaching our goals, whether it's about business, health, relationships or your job. Many people want things to happen right away, instant results. People play the lottery hoping to change their lives over night, buy millons of dollars of weight loss loss products promising quick results without changing your habits or making a commitment to their health. The slight edge philosophy is simply making the right decisions every day. Not the big decisions but the little decisions you make everyday.

You read stories of the "overnight success" of movie stars, music artists, inventors, sports figures and entrepenuers. Even if your a talented singer, do think if you wake up one morning and decide to be successful agents will just start to call you?   Do think that your career will take off in a week or a month? Successful people takes years working and planning and taking action, turning failure into learning and taking more action. Applying the slight edge.

You may not want to be a movie star but the slight edge applys to you none the less. I used to work a job I disliked Very Much. I also worked with people who complained how much they didn't like their job day after day, week after week, year after year. One thing I heard a lot was I can't get a different job because I can't afford a pay cut and I totally understand that. However, what were they doing to overcome that obstacle? NOTHING, except maybe playing the lottery. Some of these people had worked at this job for 5, 10 or 15 years, if they started applying the slight edge they would eventually get what they wanted out of life.

Life is a daily process, filled with seemingly unimportant, harmless decisions. Making positve decisions compounded over time will put you on the success curve. Simple errors in judgement compounded over time will put you on the failure curve. The Slight Edge is either working for you or against you whether you're paying attention or not.
